High-temperature solutions provider Calderys has joined the Cast Metals Federation (CMF) as a new Supplier Member.

Calderys is a leading global provider of solutions for industries operating in high-temperature conditions, specialising in refractory products and advanced solutions for metal processing. Drawing on more than 160 years of experience, the company delivers tailored, end-to-end solutions supported by a global network of engineering and technical experts.

The company supports foundries nationwide with high-performance materials that optimise energy consumption, practical technical service designed to improve reliability, casting quality and operational efficiency.

Refractory services for the foundry industry

For the foundry sector, Calderys acts as a long-term partner to both ferrous and non-ferrous producers. Its offer spans refractory solutions, core and moulding sand additives, and support across the full metal processing chain – from melting, treating and transferring through to casting.

The Group also supplies refractory solutions for heat treatment furnaces, thermal sand regeneration furnaces, anti-stick protective coatings and slags removers/coagulants.

For foundries, the Group offers moulding solutions and casting defect consultancy.

To complement its product offering, Calderys also has a complete portfolio of services: from studies (drawings, calculations and simulations) to assistance and support during start-up, monitoring, off-site relining at dedicated service facilities, technical support and overall project management.

Calderys in Ellesmere Port

Blending global expertise with deep local roots, Calderys’ Ellesmere Port facility has become the UK’s premier hub for precast refractory solutions and high-temperature project services – redefining what’s possible in advanced manufacturing and industrial maintenance.

The Ellesmere Port facility is the UK’s leading centre for refractory precasting, with experience in project maintenance and high-performance product development.

The combination of Calderys and Harbison Walker International (now HW, a member of Calderys) in 2023 brought together even more expertise in materials and product innovation, enabling Ellesmere Port to leverage the extended offering and global footprint of the new Group.

From shapes to services

The Ellesmere Port operation is a fusion of capability, flexibility and deep technical knowhow. At the core is its precast refractory facility – one of the largest in the UK – where pieces ranging from a kilogram in weight to an impressive 15 tons are cast and cured. It offers a scale of operation and reliability unmatched in the region.

The site also serves as a relining hub. Customers send entire furnaces, or specific components like doors, to the yard for refurbishment. It is often more efficient for customers, as they can rotate their spare units through the Ellesmere Port facility, minimizing downtime in the process.  In addition to driving this capability is an investment in advanced design and manufacturing: computer Numerical Control (CNC) routing and 3D printing are increasingly central to the operations.
