Greensand and diecasting foundry, Archway Brown, are the latest castings producer to join the CMF. The Bedfordshire based facility make a range of precision engineered aluminium castings for the marine, film and general engineering sectors, as well as decorative and heritage castings for specialist projects. One of their specialities is making diecast components for camera tripods.
Owner and foundryman Stephen Whelan says, “As a small foundry, we recognise the value of being part of the Federation – the information and support will be invaluable to us, as well as the opportunities that membership will being for us to meet with others from the industry and share new ideas. As a greensand foundry, we recognise that we are a key part of the circular economy for metals, re-using our sand and also using aluminium, which can be readily recycled, as our key raw material. We want to be part of the collective voice for our industry”.
Pam Murrell FICME, CMF’s CEO agrees saying, “Manufacturing is challenging at the moment, with pressures from overseas competition, raw material pricing, skills shortages and continuing pressure to improve health and safety, so we are delighted that Stephen and his small team at Archway Brown are joining us. We recognise the value of the collective voice as we work to support our UK foundries, making the case for metal castings as lower carbon components, vital for a huge range of domestic and global supply chains.”
