09 Dec An Evening of Awards

The CMF was honoured to be able to have the new BAFTA Britannia Award on display during the recent Annual Best of British Casting Awards Dinner.

This new British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) Britannia Award was designed by Gary McMonnies and cast in aluminium and ‘looks to both tradition and innovation in its core design’, according to BAFTA. It was cast in the same foundry, New Pro Foundries Ltd, as the bronze BAFTA award and the company have crafted each BAFTA award since 1976.

CMF CEO Pam Murrell said, “We invited Patrick Helly, pictured on the right, from NewPro Foundries, to cast our own awards statuettes awards a few years ago when we decided that we should present a metal casting to our winners. Patrick has recently sold the foundry to new owner David Chesney, so as a thank-you to Patrick, we showed a short film of the production process at the foundry, from moulding to casting, through to the finishing of the parts, ready for mounting and polishing.”

Patrick joked with our guest presenter, comedian Simon Evans, that “this would be the nearest that he got to a BAFTA.”
