LBBC Technologies is celebrating its 150th anniversary – a major milestone for a company founded in 1876 as the Leeds and Bradford Boiler Company.
Evolution
The business evolved under the long-standing leadership of the Pickard family, who have guided the organisation for five generations. Throughout the 20th century, LBBC achieved major engineering milestones, including early presswork during the First World War and the introduction of the Quicklock® autoclave door in 1934, which set new global standards for safety and usability.
By the 1960s, LBBC had become an internationally recognised specialist in autoclave systems and investment casting technology, earning the Queen’s Award for Exports in 1967. In the following decades, the company continued to innovate – developing technologies such as the Boilerclave® and Leaching Autoclave which transformed process capabilities.
In the 1960’s LBBC’s reputation for pressure containment and safety led to its products being applied to doors and hatches on Britain’s submarines. This application continues to develop and grow to this day.
During the 1990s, LBBC strengthened its support for customers worldwide and invested in advanced 3D solid modelling technology to enhance product development.
In 2003, the company reorganised its structure to create LBBC Technologies and LBBC Beechwood, bringing greater focus to both technology development and manufacturing excellence.
Celebration
As LBBC celebrates this significant milestone, the company has also taken an important step towards a more unified future. In 2025, LBBC came together more closely as one cohesive organisation supported by a refreshed brand identity, updated workwear and a renewed commitment to collaboration and clarity for customers.
LBBC enters its next 150 years with a strengthened vision, a dedication to engineering innovation and a continued commitment to the values that have defined the company since 1876.
