The Cast Metals Federation (CMF) enjoyed a productive first appearance at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2026, held from 3–5 February at Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre.
Across the three-day event, CMF received a steady flow of enquiries from manufacturers seeking to bring casting production back to the UK, reflecting growing interest in resilient domestic supply chains and high-quality British manufacturing capability.
CMF also spoke with a number of companies exploring opportunities to convert fabrications and assemblies into single-piece castings, improving manufacturability and performance. The CMF online Foundry Search service was kept busy identifying suitable foundries and initiating direct discussions.
Enquiries covered a broad range of metals, including steel, copper, magnesium, bronze and aluminium. Diecasting and investment casting attracted the highest level of interest, with additional enquiries relating to sand casting.
A number of manufacturers also expressed interest in upskilling their workforce, with CMF able to signpost enquirers to the foundry training and technical development delivered by the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers (ICME).
CMF also received enquiries from companies interested in joining the Federation, including suppliers seeking to expand the products and services they offer to CMF member foundries.
Commenting after the event, CMF Chief Executive Lee Marshall said: “Southern Manufacturing and Electronics was an excellent opportunity to promote the capability of the UK cast metals sector.
“We saw clear demand for reshoring, strong interest in casting as a route to simplify assemblies, and encouraging engagement around training and skills.
“These conversations are exactly what CMF is here to support – connecting manufacturers with the right UK casting expertise and helping members generate new opportunities.”
CMF’s attendance at this event forms part of its ongoing programme of activity to promote members’ capabilities and represent the UK cast metals industry at major manufacturing events.
