16 Sep Northfield Foundry join the Cast Metals Federation

Northfield Foundry Ltd, an iron foundry based in Brixham Devon, is the latest foundry to join the Cast Metals Federation, CMF.

Part of the Rotolok Group, Northfield Foundry is able to supply a wide range of castings from pumps to compressors and clutch housings to filter casings and specialises in producing rotary valves and diverter components for the powder and bulk handling industries. It is well placed to supply UK and European companies with highly cored and complex, repeat batch grey iron castings.

Technical Director, Simon Bates, says, “We are delighted to be joining the CMF. We have undergone significant change in recent years with a major investment in new furnaces to enable electric melting, and being part of the Federation will enable us to share our experiences as well as learn from others in the industry. We are proud that we are able to offer complete project management including casting, fabrication, machining, non-destructive testing, pressure testing, and special painting, which allows our customers to place one order for the complete manufacture of the required component, from conceptual design to finished part ready for installation.”

“I was particularly pleased to be able to attend a recent regional meeting with other CMF members recently which provided a great opportunity to meet with other foundry owners and senior managers and discuss a range of issues affecting the industry as well as to hear about the work that the Federation is doing to promote UK foundries and our products as near net shape, lower carbon products made using secondary metals (in our case scrap steel and iron).

Pam Murrell FICME, CMF’s CEO agrees saying, “We have a positive story to tell with the components we make being vital for modern life and in many cases supporting the transition to a lower carbon economy. Metal castings are also fully recyclable at end of life, as well as being made from secondary metal that otherwise would be exported, risking carbon leakage.

“We are delighted that the team at Northfield are joining – we recognise the value of the collective voice as we work to support our UK foundries, making the case for metal castings as lower carbon components, vital for a huge range of domestic and global supply chains.”
