14 Aug Carbon Chain joins the Cast Metals Federation
CarbonChain provides end-to-end visibility into the carbon footprint of the world’s metal supply chains. Its carbon accounting platform enables manufacturers, traders and their banks to measure, report and lower their emissions, so they can retain market share and prepare for new and changing regulations.
Pam Murrell FICME, CMF’s CEO says “Carbon reporting is very important for our industry as we are in the supply chains for so many sectors. We are also an industry that uses energy to melt and process metal and to machine and heat treat the components we make. At the same time the industry is a key part of the circular economy for metals as secondary metals are a key raw material for our foundries.
“So, we have a positive story to tell with the components we make being vital for modern life and, in many cases, actively supporting the transition to a lower carbon economy through the supply chains we support. Metal castings are also fully recyclable at end of life, as well as being made from secondary metal that otherwise would be exported (which results in carbon leakage).
“But to make that case our members need robust and reliable data so we welcome the support that the team at CarbonChain will be able to offer.”
Roheet Shah, company Co-founder and COO, agrees, “With carbon accounting, and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, CBAM, becoming such important topics for the metals industry, we recognise the challenges but also the opportunities for UK industry.
“We are looking forward to getting involved and supporting the work that CMF is already doing with its members and helping businesses move from compliance to competitive future-proofing in their carbon reporting.”
