18 Nov Leading the Way with Management Training

More than 50 young people from Goodwin Steel Castings attended a two-day course on Effective Team Leadership provided by the Cast Metals Federation, CMF.  The course was part of the suite of courses on offer from the CMF to its members, ranging from frontline courses, aimed at those progressing into supervisory or team leader roles, to programmes for senior staff looking to improve their strategic leadership skills.

Pam Murrell, CEO of the CMF who organised the training course, said ‘We recognise that training in management and leadership skills is just as important as technical skills in today’s engineering and manufacturing supply chains.  Indeed, never has leadership been more important, with the various challenges and changes that our industry is undergoing.  Our companies need people who have the ability to define a strategy (and then plan for its implementation), to innovate, to work closely with clients and customers, to manage teams, communicate effectively and provide clear leadership.  Most of us are not natural managers & leaders, particularly if you have transitioned from a technical or craft background, and clearly there are strategies and tips that can be learned.  So the courses that we have at the various levels are aimed at facilitating this development.”

Bernard Goodwin agreed, adding ‘As a company we are very keen to explore every opportunity for our apprentices and graduates to develop and this course is part of a wider portfolio of courses that we offer.  We are particularly grateful to the Tor Lodge & Applecross Trust who have helped us with a grant toward the cost of this training course, which in turn has meant that our training budget is able to go much further.”
