Part 1: The Effective Team Leader

WHO IS IT FOR?

For those taking their first steps into managing or who have been managing for some time, or who may be taking on a management position in the future. Suitable for anyone who would benefit from necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to be effective in their role.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Develop the core knowledge, skills and behaviours to undertake their role with increased confidence, competence and the difference between managing and leading. What are the key skills that make an outstanding manager?

  • Managing through people
  • Building a team and what is the right team balance?
  • Effective communication, delegation and motivation
  • Managing conflict, performance and development
  • What is management and what is leadership?
  • Leadership behaviour and leadership effectiveness

DURATION

2 core units – delivered over 2 days (one per month) with a morning and afternoon session.

Part 2: Working with your team

Using Emotional Intelligence

WHO IS IT FOR?

Relating to others is vital in today’s workplace. Whether you are the office junior, the chief executive or anything in between, this course will increase your Emotional Intelligence, helping you to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others and show you the way to greater success.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Management and leadership effectiveness can be improved through a manager or leader recognising their own capabilities and strengths. Psychology can be applied at work to understand and manage individuals, teams and workplace issues.

Emotional Intelligence is now recognised as a key factor influencing high performance at work. But what is it, and more importantly how can it be developed?

  • Self-awareness in a leadership role, and organisational behaviour
  • Planning management and leadership effectiveness
  • Team personalities: traits, types and the challenges
  • Explore and develop your own leadership style
  • Self-awareness for leadership and soft skills development
  • The role of goalsetting for personal change and development priorities
  • Being a good manager

DURATION

Part 3: Managing to leading

WHO IS IT FOR?

For those taking their first steps into managing or who have been managing for some time, or who may be taking on a management position in the future. Suitable for anyone who would benefit from necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to be effective in their role.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

To examine the purpose of business and what your particular business is looking to achieve and deliver. Recognise the changed role, purpose and requirements when transitioning from operator/worker through to manager/supervisor. Develop skills, knowledge and behaviours that will enable immediate improvements to individual and organisational management performance and create an action plan to deliver changes to your management approach, style and influence.

  • Manager versus leader – the core skills required
  • Dealing with current challenges – implications for managers
  • Understanding organisational structures
  • Identifying with the main business functions and challenges
