30 Sep Maybrey Precision Castings join the Cast Metals Federation
“We are delighted to welcome Maybrey Precision Castings Ltd into membership of the Cast Metals Federation”, says CEO Pam Murrell.
The Kent based foundry produces grey iron, ductile iron, copper-based and aluminium components for both commercial and aerospace industries, as well as supplying the Caro Group companies with parts for a range of applications including flood defence systems.
As Sam Hills, Business Development Manager for the company explains, “With our current focus on reducing our carbon footprint, enabled by a programme of investment and development, as well as carbon offsetting to help us strive for carbon neutrality, joining the Federation at this time makes perfect sense to us and we are looking forward to being involved in all the various CMF activities. We all understand that foundries are energy-intense, because of the processes that we need to carry out, and we started by using an outside company to independently measure our carbon footprint. We now work to optimise energy efficiency, use recycled metal where possible, and reclaim our sand at the foundry. Plus, we invested in a solar panel farm and purchase our energy under a green contract.
“Customers are increasing asking us about our sustainability plans, as well as our quality credentials, and with three spectrograph machines covering both our ferrous and non-ferrous requirements, and a well-equipped inspection department, conventional and CNC machine shop facilities and in-house wet and powder coat painting, we are able to supply many of our castings fully machined and finished to ensure we look after both our commercial and released contracts.”
CMF CEO Pam Murrell FICME says, “The foundry has a proud heritage with its history dating back to the Hatcham Iron Works in 1849 and the production of George England’s early railway locomotives, and then merged with the Reliance Foundry merged in 2002. The recent move to a combined production centre in Aylesford in Kent clearly provided an opportunity for the team to invest in new equipment and streamline the production flow.
“We are always delighted to welcome UK foundries into membership and look forward to working with Andrew and Sam Hills – the latest members of the Hills family to take up the leadership of the foundry – as we all work to take our industry forward.”
