16 Sep Fowler + Holden are latest foundry to join the Cast Metals Federation

Fowler + Holden Ltd, based in Grimsby, have recently joined the Cast Metals Federation.

Commercial & Operations Manager of the foundry, Andy Christer, says, “We are delighted to be joining the CMF. We celebrated over 100 years in business 5 years ago and pride ourselves on our flexibility, offering a wide range of ferrous sand castings including grey iron (to 1t in weight) and ductile cast iron (to 750kg in weight), but also in grades of austempered ductile iron, ni-resist, ni-hards and hi chrome irons for wear resistant applications, for a wide range of industrial applications, from short runs and one-offs to higher volumes.”

Dave Bradshaw, Engineering Manager, agrees saying, “We offer a range of engineering services on site including design work and patternmaking, machining of castings and other components, welding – including MIG – as well as arc and air brazing, we are proud to offer the option of being a truly “one stop shop” here on site which helps us stay competitive on prices and produces short lead times.

“We recognise the work that the CMF is doing to support the UK castings industry, particularly at a time when sustainability and competitiveness are key – we are proud to be part of the circular economy for metals in the UK and recognise the importance of the casting process as fundamental to so many other supply chains.”

“We are looking forward to getting involved in the various member’s meetings and activities so that we can take full advantage of our membership.”

Welcoming the foundry into membership, CMF CEO Pam Murrell FICME says, “We are always delighted to welcome UK foundries into membership. There are clear opportunities for the industry in the UK and there will always be demand for shape castings in metal. The ferrous foundry industry here has already largely electrified, so with a considerable proportion of the electricity we use now being generated from sustainable sources, and steel and iron castings being made from scrap steel, castings are lower carbon products for the huge range of infrastructure and engineering sectors that the industry supplies. We look forward to working with the team from Fowler and Holden.”
