22 Apr Climate Change Agreement – consultation launched.

Our CMF partners, LG Energy, have provided the following information about a new consultation on the CCA.

On 16th April, BEIS launched consultation on the Climate Change Agreement looking into the following:

•A 2-year extension via the inclusion of a new Target Period 5.   Proposed to run from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2022, by extending the certification for reduced rates of the Climate Change Levy to 31st March 2025, for participants who meet the required obligations.

•Proposed re-opening of the scheme, allowing eligible facilities not currently enrolled to join.

The government is also exploring how a longer-term CCA scheme could fit within the wider policy landscape. The consultation canvasses opinion on what broader reforms could be made to eligibility, targets and technologies considered.

Additionally, BEIS have released findings on the second CCA scheme, revealing it has been popular with industry. 80% to 100% of businesses in qualifying sectors took part, accounting for an estimated 114TWh of 2018 energy use, comparative to 264TWh for all industry.
