30 Nov Long Latency Report Published

The long latency report on the ‘Exposure to Substances Hazardous to Health in Foundries’ has now been published and is available from the HSE website.   The direct link to the page on the HSE website for the report is http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/rrpdf/rr1115.pdf.

The Industry Safety and Health Initiative, SHIFT, which is administered by CMF on behalf of the industry, has already started to host a series of talks covering topics around RPE and issues raised within the report during its Forum meetings.  This work can now continue at pace with the launch next year of Phase 3 of SHIFT, led by the advisory committee, CHASAC.

Over the course of the next few months, basic guidance documents will start to be produced.  It is also SHIFT’s intent to work with relevant partners outside of the foundry industry where necessary, to bring in new expertise to help with the work of SHIFT for the benefit of the industry.

A link to the document has also been placed onto the SHIFT website.  If you have any questions regarding the report or the work of SHIFT, please contact Richard Heath, e: richardheath@cmfed.co.uk or telephone 0121 601 6392.

This is a very important report for the industry and, given the renewed focus on occupational health that is taking place within the UK at present, we cannot afford to ignore it if we are to continue to protect our workforce.
